The ANZAOS 2026 Scientific Conference brings together oral surgeons, general dental practitioners, and trainees for a focused day of high-quality education and professional development.
This year’s theme, “Oral Surgery: Precision and Safe Practice,” highlights practical, evidence-based approaches to everyday and complex surgical care. The programme is designed to deliver clinically relevant insights that can be applied immediately in practice.

Submit your poster abstract for the ANZAOS 8th Annual Scientific Conference. Abstracts must be a maximum of 500 words and should include: Background/Rationale, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion.

Lecture themes: Enhancing patient safety and Evidence-based techniques in oral surgery: Third-molar removal and safety culture
Reader and Honorary Consultant in Oral Surgery at Queen Mary University of London and Barts Health NHS Trust. He completed specialist training in the North West of England and undertook an MPhil in post-operative pain management at the University of Manchester, collaborating with the Cochrane Oral Health Group. He later received NIHR funding for research in patient safety in primary care dentistry.
He has authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications in pain management, evidence-based surgery, and patient safety, and was Principal Investigator for an industry-sponsored analgesic trial in 2022. He established the DClinDent in Oral Surgery in 2020 and serves as its Programme Director. He is a former Council Member of the British Association of Oral Surgeons.

Lecture title: Red, Amber, Green (oral mucosal red flags) - how to risk assess patients and lesions.
Oral Medicine Specialist based in Sydney, Australia. She works in specialist private practice and holds clinical appointments at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. She is a Stream Coordinator for the DClinDent (Oral Medicine) program at the University of Sydney.
She is President of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia and a Fellow of multiple international colleges, including the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. She is an invited speaker nationally and internationally and has published widely, contributing to and co-editing several Oral Medicine textbooks.
Her clinical interests include oral mucosal disease, potentially malignant disorders, vesiculobullous disease, salivary gland pathology, and orofacial pain. Her research focuses on oral carcinogenesis and autoimmune blistering disorders.

Lecture Title: Artificial Intelligence in Contemporary Oral Surgery: From Radiographic Interpretation to Predictive Surgical Intelligence
Oral Surgeon and academic with expertise in oral surgery, dental public health, sedation dentistry, craniofacial pain, and regenerative medicine. He holds adjunct appointments at The University of Queensland.
A graduate of The University of Queensland (1988), he completed postgraduate training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Eastman Dental Institute, University of London, alongside qualifications in public health, conscious sedation, and pain management. He completed his PhD at Queensland University of Technology.
Dr Doan is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, and the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications, with research interests including photobiomodulation, neuromodulation, regenerative oral surgery, implant dentistry, and public health.

A specialist in dental public health and academic known for his contributions to dental ethics, professionalism, and oral health policy. Based at the Sydney Dental Hospital where is he Director of Specialist Services and as a Clinical Professor affiliated with the University of Sydney School of Dentistry, he combines clinical expertise with a strong commitment to research which furthers ethical practice and social justice in dentistry. Professor Holden holds qualifications in dentistry, public health and law, allowing him to bring a unique interdisciplinary perspective to his teaching and research. His work focuses on improving patient care through ethical decision-making, advocating for vulnerable populations, and shaping public policy to support equitable access to oral health services. He is an active voice in national and international dental communities, regularly contributing to scholarly publications and professional forums.

Lecture theme: Dental sinusitis
An Australian-trained Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in rhinology and sinus disease. She is currently undertaking a fellowship in Paediatric Rhinology and Anterior Skull Base Surgery at Sydney Children’s Hospital, while also serving as a Consultant Surgeon at Prince of Wales Hospital.

Lecture theme: Management of opioid tolerant patients
Dr Adarsh Gopinath is a Specialist Oral Surgeon and Staff Specialist in Oral Surgery with Western NSW Local Health District. He completed his Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) at the University of Sydney and has over 15 years of clinical experience across public, private and specialist dental services in metropolitan, regional, and remote Australia.
His clinical practice encompasses dentoalveolar surgery, oral pathology, dental implants, facial trauma, and the management of medically complex patients. Dr Gopinath has a strong interest in evidence-based oral surgery, perioperative pain management, opioid stewardship, and improving patient outcomes through clinical innovation.
Alongside his clinical work, he is actively involved in teaching medical students through the University of Sydney and mentoring junior clinicians through the Western NSW Health. He is passionate about improving access to specialist oral surgical services in rural and regional communities and advancing oral surgery education throughout Australia.
